You have permission to shop! Having just the right outfit for that special event is a must. While we don't always have an unlimited budget (few of us do) to buy the designer version, with the right amount of planning, we can get pretty close to having exactly what we want at an affordable price tag. Here are some basic guidelines that will help you get the most out of your shopping excursions and assist you in choosing the right outfit, shoes and accessories to compliment your special day.
Decide early on what style best suits the occasion (cocktail, dressy casual, sporty).
Are you trying to work within a particular color pallet?
Don't buy an outfit with the hopes of losing a few pounds -- buy it to fit.
Start shopping/browsing as soon as you know about the event -- don't wait until the last minute.
Keep your eye out for sales...the earlier you shop, the more likely you'll be to take advantage of sales and mark downs.
Once you have your outfit - look for shoes, jewelry, etc to compliment it.
Bring your dress with you when accessory shopping.
Show your hair stylist your outfit -- let him/her think about the best way to wear your hair the day of the event.
Jewelry should enhance your outfit, not take over...an open neck may not need a necklace, but sparkly earrings may dazzle.
Don't wait until the last minute to make sure you have the right undergarments -- the right underpinnings will slim you and add to the correct fit of the garment/outfit.
